Water Consumption Comparison

Water cost and consumption matter — for utility bills, sustainability reporting, and operating in water-stressed regions like the Middle East, Australia, and parts of the US Southwest.

Per-Cycle Water Consumption

Machine / MethodL per cycleL per 50 cycles/day

Winterhalter UC-M2.4120 L
Hobart AMX3.8190 L
Jackson TempStar HH-E3.0150 L

Champion EHS-23.5175 L
Manual 3-bay sink (per equivalent batch)15–25750–1,250 L

Why Manual Washing Uses So Much More

A 3-bay sink uses 60–100 L per fill (depending on sink size). Even if you refill only twice a day, that's 120–200 L. Add the constant tap-running for rinsing and the per-item water consumption climbs to 3–8 L per item — far higher than any commercial dishwasher.

Annual Water Cost Impact

For a typical small bakery running 50 cycles/day, 300 days/year:

  • JD-3: 37,500 L/year
  • Hobart AMX: 57,000 L/year
  • Manual sink: ~225,000 L/year

At average commercial water+sewer rates of $4.50 per 1000 L (US/EU averages):

  • JD-3: $168/year
  • Hobart AMX: $256/year
  • Manual sink: $1,012/year

How JD-3 Achieves Lower Water Consumption

  • Precision rinse manifold: Engineered for minimum water volume to achieve coverage, not legacy over-rinsing.
  • Wash tank reuse: The wash tank water is recirculated for many cycles, filtered between uses. Only the rinse water is fresh-per-cycle.
  • Heat recovery option: Pre-warms incoming cold water, reducing the volume of "let it run until hot" that operators do.
  • Sealed door: Steam capture means less water evaporates from the wash tank per cycle (less refill needed).

Sustainability Reporting

If your operation reports to ESG standards (typical for hotel groups, corporate cafeterias, large chains), JD-3 consumption data can be incorporated into your scope-3 reporting. We provide per-cycle measured consumption data sheets that meet most reporting frameworks.

In Water-Stressed Regions

For operations in Dubai, Riyadh, Cape Town, Las Vegas, Phoenix, southern California, or other water-scarce regions, the difference between 2.5 L/cycle and 4.0 L/cycle is significant — both in utility cost and in regulatory compliance. Some municipalities impose surcharges on commercial water use above benchmarks. JD-3's consumption typically falls below those benchmarks.
